The wacky axle I've got on my F250 is apparently a super duty axle. If I install one ton springs and a class V hitch then I have all the equipment (but not the legal weight rating) of an F350, and then some. My rear springs need replacing anyway, and the ideal would be to find super duty springs, but I assume they're in short supply. The alternative seems to be to get rear lift springs, which is a somewhat spendy proposition; indeed, they are almost as expensive as the rest of the lift put together!

It would be excellent to remake Star Co- er, excuse me, The Ur-Quan Masters in the Vega Strike engine. It wouldn't currently permit the resource-gathering portion of the game, but that was my least favorite part anyway. The most hoped-for features in Vega Strike are first-person combat and continual flight down to planets' surfaces, so one day that too may be possible. All the really good parts of the game could be implemented in the existing engine.

The temporary placement of the CDR on my custom F250 intake was apparently a little too temporary and I lost it on the way home the other day. So I hustled out and picked up another one from a GM 6.5 liter diesel in a van at Last Mile in Upper Lake.

Two days in a row the daily woot has been an HP desktop computer. Kind of makes me wonder if everything they sell is complete shit nobody wants. I thought most of it was just stuff they got cheap.

At the Santa Cruz Flea Market I got, among other things, a Magellan Maestro 4050. I already have a slightly later unit, but this one has bluetooth. They run WinCE 5 which means most relevantly that they have persistent storage. WinCE 4 and earlier devices almost uniformly have only volatile memory, so when your battery runs out, your device resets itself to its factory settings. This was likely the best design decision Microsoft could have made, because WinCE 4 was an unreliable pile of debris that would corrupt its own installation at the slightest opportunity.
