Old Content Coming to Hyperlogos.org

By drink | Mon October 30, 2006

I've been doing this web thing since roughly 1993; I've had pages at The Armory, and the now-defunct Marshmallow Peanut Circus (formerly circus.com), at netcom, on slashpalace.org, at frenzy.com, and a ton of other places. Today, all of these pages have died or are only reference links to more current content. This last weekend I turned up a disc that has almost all of my old web content, and I have begun to put it up on the site.

Quotes, whee.

By drink | Mon August 21, 2006

I have installed the Quotes module. This system allows for displaying of random quotes. I'm not doing that right now, but you can search for quotes, add new quotes, and so on. I have the functionality to import quotes in an odd tab-delimited format, or in fortune file format. For reference, you can find fortune files by googling for "fortune datfiles". The debian repository CVS is a good place to download them individually.

SSL enabled

By drink | Fri August 04, 2006

Today I enabled SSL on this host, using a self-signed cert. It's some $45/year to get a properly signed one, and I'm not sure it's really worth it, so I went ahead and self-signed. If I ever start taking credit card payments, and not just using paypal (once I even get ecommerce module working properly) then I'll probably change my mind.

Regardless, you can now access this site via https if you would like to be stealthy. It would be better for the freedom of the common man if all traffic were encrypted, so I like to encourage every possible use of encryption.

drupal upgrades, and more

By drink | Mon July 24, 2006

Today I upgraded Drupal from 4.6.x to 4.7.x. This came with some special problems, but none of them were in drupal itself, but in modules. To wit, the ecommerce module summoned satan all over itself; it is using the new method in drupal where modules can create their own database tables, and it's not creating them all. I went so far as to disable all the modules, manually remove the tables, and then put the modules back in - which changed nothing. I wasn't actually selling anything anyway, so I went ahead and kept the upgrade.

More website updates, more to come

By drink | Tue May 02, 2006

I've been fighting for some time to come up with a layout that really genuinely works. I want to use CSS and end up doing strict XHTML, so I'm working towards that end mostly by trying to eliminate all tables.

Theming in Progress

By drink | Mon February 13, 2006

I am currently in the process of working on developing a theme for this site. This will tell me what I need to know to theme other drupal sites. Consequently, the site looks a little whacked out right now. Some things may be a little hard to read; if you have problems, send me mail.

Valid XHTML 1.0/Transitional

By drink | Tue February 07, 2006

The front page currently validates as XHTML 1.0/Transitional. In particular I had to muck around with the gmap module and turn off the recent comments block. The former specifies a script tag with language but no type, and the latter has a <ul></ul> pair in it with no <li> tags in between, which is also not allowed. I will continue to work to keep this site as close to valid XHTML as I can, including submitting patches for drupal and modules.
