As a member of CERT, a FEMA program to increase community resilience in disasters whose future is currently uncertain, I found myself in need of some high quality maps of town which would show the names of every street in the town where I live. This eventually led me to QGIS, a geodata visualization package which allows the user to create their own programmatic styles for map elements which can produce any kind of map. Here I wanted fairly simple flat maps, with very high readability.
