  • Sears Service == Incompetent
By drink | Fri July 02, 2010

Last June 5th we broke down and bought an air conditioner. We went to Sears to buy it, because they had 'em and nobody else in town has much selection. This turned out to be a gigantic mistake. We used it throughout the summer, and then put it away in the back room. When I brought it back out the GFCI-equipped power cord's breaker decided to blow every time the unit was plugged in. I figured it was just the cord. The girl I talked to on the phone said that servicemen carry that kind of part with them, which turned out to be a lie, shock amazement.

Service guy came out just a few days later and they told him to order a control board and some connectors, so he did. Then I had to call back just to get them to release the parts because one of the connectors hadn't come in. All three parts arrived anyway, yesterday. Service guy shows up today, and the control board they shipped was damaged. But now he is noticing (apparently for the first time) that the breaker trips even when the leads from the power cord aren't connected to anything. So obviously I was right, and now I will have to have ANOTHER visit. And we've already had one day with 105 degrees in the shade, and tomorrow is supposed to be super-hot again.

I am never buying another appliance that says "Kenmore" on it. I am never calling Sears for service on anything not covered by a Sears warranty, and hopefully won't own any products like that in the future. I should have known better. Now I do. Now you do. And this isn't even over yet!
