I'm sure that the majority of us have read reviews of how the "protection" features in Windows Vista are, at least in beta, more arduous than actually being infected by malicious software, asking you for confirmation for practically everything, to the point where it brings to mind the old joke "Windows has detected a mouse movement, and must reboot." Well, I'm here to tell you that Vista isn't the only operating system trying to protect me from myself, nor is it the most overzealous protector in general - that award goes to Windows XP.
The dialog box at the top of this article is a very real one, and it's funny-looking because I'm using an Amiga Theme for windows. I tried to open a folder, My Computer in fact, and got that, then a crash of explorer, asking me to send the crash dump to Microsoft. I actually did this; I don't send crash reports on firefox for example, because I feel it's more likely to be misused than anything (I do allow talkback to send them to the mozilla foundation, though) but I certainly send them crash information for Microsoft products. At least, when I'm at work.
Anyway, enough about the horrors of Microsoft, time for lunch.
Update @ 1:29 PM: The directory in question is C:\Inetpub\wwwroot
. It's doing it every time. I even removed the directory and recreated it, permissioned it (making sure I have full control) and it's still happening, even though there is literally nothing in the folder. Classy! Tell me, where do you want to go today? Personally, I'm thinking away from Microsoft.
