I recently started playing Fallout 4 again, because I own it already and it runs well on my potato, even under Linux. The last time I played I had dual nvidia GTX 950 cards in SLI under Windows 7, and now I have a single 1070 under Linux. The performance is as much better as you would hope. The game is just about as reliable on Linux as it is on Windows, which is not very. However, my current configuration lets the game start up pretty quickly, and liberal use of the quicksave feature keeps me from losing too much progress in the inevitable explosions.
I am currently about 2/3 of the way though my second replay since reinstalling FO4, using my current set of mods. Before this I did one using OAR, FCR, and Project Valkyrie, and I wasn't really happy with how it came out in general. I'm also using Sim Settlements 2, and that's got some rough edges that seem to rub up against those mods. And, to make things worse, I had forgotten not to build up Sanctuary. Even in this game I have a modest settlement at Red Rocket, which is better but still a bad idea. Ideally you don't build Red Rocket up at all, and Sanctuary only enough to fulfill base game mission objectives.
