The following is an alternate version (a bit more wordy) of a review I wrote for travelpost about a visit to Comfort Inn at 5370 Clayton road in Concord, CA.
My lady stayed in this place and said she hated it, but we tried to get a place up the road and all the rooms were booked. It must have been because everyone else knew about this place, because it's Feb. 20th and nothing special is going on here. This is by far the LOUDEST hotel I've stayed in, which includes venues in Santa Cruz and Las Vegas. Outside noise is absolutely intolerable, and because of the neighborhood this place is in you can expect to hear loud engines, tires screeching, and horns honking all night (I did.)
In at least two rooms (the one I stayed in this time, and the one she stayed in last time) the beds were busted. We got a non-smoking King room and the bed was both way too hard AND it was busted so that it sank towards the middle. The room had a refrigerator, which is a piece of junk that cycled every ten minutes, all night. More light actually came in through the window at night than through my window when I stayed at Circus Circus in Vegas - where I had a floodlight more or less pointed at my window!
The only reason this place doesn't get a 1 from me is that there are up sides to the location as well; it's relatively easy to find and it's close to a lot of food - that is, if you like mexican, chinese, or a burger. Otherwise you'll have to range far afield to find food. I'm not kidding when I say there's about fifty restaurants on this road and about 48 of them fall into one of the above categories.
High tension power lines run directly across the property (we parked almost beneath them and our room is very close to our parking space or vice versa.) If this offends you for any reason, it's just another reason to stay far away from this place. Other, minor annoyances included a flashing light on the television (I am highly light-sensitive) and a spot of really nasty mildew in the corner of the shower where an incompetent maintenance dork trashed the caulking.
If you find yourself looking for a room in Concord, do yourself a favor, and stay anywhere else.
