  • Lore-Friendly Mods for a Fallout 4 Replay (2023)

This is a WIP mod collection for a (re-re-)replay with high Quality of Life, that is to say, minimum boredom which is not self-inflicted*.

Some of these mods are not working correctly! The goal of the next revision is to fix that. This set of mods requires all of the DLC. For some of the mods where it matters, there are alternate versions that don't require all of it. For some, there are not. You can always just not install those parts.

Patches, Libraries, and Performance

If you wanted purely to get as many fixes into the vanilla game as possible, you could install only the mods and addons from this section. No gameplay would be changed, the game would run smoother, and there would be fewer breaking bugs.

F4SE

Achievements
Allows you to collect achievements even with a modded game. This is mad sleazy if you use lore breaking mods, and it's possible to use these mods in a cheating way. But then, you can just cheat your way to victory (or whatever) with the console.

Address Library for F4SE Plugins

Buffout 4
"fixes engine bugs and adds a crash logger to the game"

FAR - Faraway Area Reform
"optimises and improves over six thousand distant terrain textures"

Faster Terminal Displays

Game Configuration Menu

High FPS Physics Fix
I play at 60 FPS, but this mod also improves load time and fixes some bugs

Load Accelerator

Long Save Bug Fix

Mod Configuration Menu
MCM is not only required for lots of other mods, it provides some configuration options of its own.

Previsibines Repair Pack (PRP) Stable Branch
Improves graphics performance with no loss of quality, and also fixes bugs.

Settlement Menu Manager

Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch
If you install only one mod, it should be this one.
But if you want to also be able to get achievements, then you need Achievements, for which you need F4SE (both above)

Workshop Framework
Required framework and bug fixes

AAI - Aeternus Actually Infinite - Free and Unlimited ammo for Aeternus
The Aeternus legendary gatling weapon is supposed to have unlimited ammo, and it does! It consumes part of a fusion core. However, it's bugged pretty badly, and sometimes it will start chewing through fusion cores at an accelerated rate. This replaces Aeternus with another weapon which actually works. Some users (including me) have a small bug where the weapon doesn't have to spin up before firing like a gatling weapon is supposed to in this game, but that's also wrong anyway. (Gatling weapons fire at the rate of rotation times the number of barrels, so they should fire immediately but slowly, then pick up rate of fire as they increase in rotational speed.)
note: setstage DLC04SettlementFF01 100 will start the quest Amoral Combat.

HUD and UI

Some of these might be required for some of the things in the first section.

DEF_UI
This lets you remap the UI elements on both pedestrian and power armor HUD.

HUDFramework

Clean Power Armor HUD
Removes all of the non-transparent power armor HUD elements (the helmet visor frame stuff) and just leaves the instruments.

Targeting Sensors on Recon Scopes

MyTweaks - UnPlumbob (Recon Scope Markers Removed)

Power Armor Rebalance

Some of these mods clearly aren't working. I wound up using the game configuration menu to implement most of the power armor rebalance. For example, I increased durability of armor for both players and NPCs, and decreased energy use. In the later game you have fusion cores showing up left and right, but they can be kind of scarce early on and I really enjoy the power armor.

Carry More with Power Armor

Companion Infinite Ammo and Unbreakable Power Armour

Durable and Realistic Power Armors V3

More powerful fusion core explosions

No Aggro Impact Landing (Power Armor)
This mod saves you from a lot of embarrassing fails because you fell just slightly farther than you thought you were going to, and made an NPC stub their toe.

Power Armor Animation Changes
Makes the game use the fast power armor entry animation almost every time.

Power Armor Hoarder

Small Power Armor Station
Allows you to craft the smaller power armor station, for the same cost as the normal one.

Durable Vertibirds
I never liked how the Commonwealth was filled with exploding vertibirds once the Brotherhood of Steel showed up. Where do they get them all? Once the BoS appears, they should absolutely thrash the balance of power.

Music

Atomic Radio and Tales from the Commonwealth

Tales from the Commonwealth - Precombined Visibility Patch

More Where That Came From - Diamond City Radio Edition

Dogmeat

Dogmeat - Doors are NOT for Dogs (No Door Opening)
Like the title implies, stops Dogmeat from opening doors. Lets you choose from several anti-dog options.

Everyone's Best Friend (Dogmeat and Companion At Same Time - No Console - No Hack)
I find this to be a reasonable middle ground between multiple companion mods and having to choose between my dog and my follower. It doesn't cause the same kind of problems you get with multiple companions.

Settlements

Clean My Settlement
This moderate settlement scrap mod lets you scrap more of the items in your settlements, without going far enough to let you cause problems. It also has a holotape that allows you to clean whole classes of items from a settlement with a click.

Increased Build Limit Enhanced 4K
Go to the workshop and hit space to open a menu that permits you to alter the build limit. The suggestion is to double it each time you need a higher limit. Increasing the build limit means it's easier to create a situation where the game crashes every time you visit a given settlement, so use discretion.

Place Everywhere
A hugely helpful mod that lets you place everything everywhere, and also easily edit their positions. The things you're placing still glow brighter when the game would normally allow you to place them where you're pointing, so you have the choice of whether or not to observe the game's sometimes overzealous anti clipping protection. Hit num lock and use the arrow keys, the mouse buttons, and the control key to further manipulate any object you're pointing at in the workshop (you must not have it selected, only point at it.) This lets you build your settlements the way you want to.

Scrap dead things
Some things don't vanish properly when killed. This mod lets you scrap them.

Sim Settlements 2
This is a game within a game plus a bunch of related mission content. The idea is that instead of building settlements yourself, you place plots (similar to zoning in city simulator games) and settlers construct their own buildings. There are also internal plots that can be placed into existing structures (like the houses of Sanctuary) or into buildings you construct from the normal settlement pieces. Includes 2x2 and 3x3 foundations to further speed up the settlement construction process. You can rapidly run into the build limit, which is why a build limit increaser is included here.
Sim Settlements 2 also includes a considerable amount of content, which it is possible to skip.

Sim Settlements 2 - Chapter 2
Still More SS2 Content

Content

Minutemen Takeover - Nuka World
Lets you command the minutemen to attack instead of killing all the gangers yourself. Nice combo with WatM below.

Piper Interview Restored

Subversion - The Institute-Railroad Alliance Alternate Ending
"Free the synths, end the kidnappings, stop the immoral experiments, pacify the Brotherhood of Steel with less violence."

The Danse Dilemma (pka Face Maxson etc.)

We Are The Minutemen
Levels the Minutemen with the player, provides a desk where you can produce more minutemen settlers, and lets you build more fancy minutemen stuff to play with.

Welcome to Goodneighbor
More Goodneighbor.

Vault 1080
nvidia lighting demo in FO4. A senseless but pretty crawl you don't have to hoof far to reach.

QoL

Automatically Lowered Weapons
You lower your weapon automatically any time you're not in combat, so it's not floating in the middle of your view.

Automatron for All
Automatron scrap items in all robot corpses, not just the ones from the Automatron DLC.

Better Console - F4SE
This F4SE plugin gives a lot more useful info on objects when you click on them, including the base ID.

Cappy in a Haystack Easy Find
Makes it easy to find the cappys in Nuka-World as soon as you put on the Cappy Glasses.

Increased Range Quest Markers

Lasers Have No Recoil

Move (Get Out the Way)
Encourages NPCs, companions, and pets you run into to move out of your way unless they are rooted to a particular spot. Sprinting into them makes them move a little quicker, too.

No Behemoth Magic Seeker Boulder
This does not stop Behemoths from throwing massive boulders at you and hitting you from very far away, it only stops them from being magic homing boulders.

Nuka-World Collectable Quest Markers
Get the holotape from the park bench as you exit the Cola-Cars Arena for the first time.

Passive Camera Shake and Impact Force - Disabled or Reduced
When your companion runs by carrying a heavy (as in weight!) weapon while wearing power armor, a frankly ridiculous amount of screen shake occurs. This mod solves it.

Pip-Boy Flashlight (Pipboy - Power Armor - Lamp Overhaul)

Realistic Ragdoll Force

Reverb and Ambiance Overhaul

Skip DIMA memories - Far Harbor

SKK Fast Start new game
This mod cuts out the time between when you design your character and when you step out of the vault. I've always found that segment of the game to be a bit tedious. It can cause problems with some mods which put items into your inventory at the start. There are lots of other fast start mods, many of which do more stuff than this one does, but many of them can cause even more problems than this one.

The Collector's Guides
Supposed to "add the item [The Collector's Guides]" but it's not appearing. Will investigate further. Probably related to SKK fast start. Might be able to find it with help and player.additem.

Not Sure Why This is In Here

These items might be required for something else in here, or they might have been required for something I was running before, in which case they'll be removed in the next revision. The more mods you add, and especially that you take away, the more risk of creating problems.

To be added in the next version

No BloodWorm MoleRats Scorpions Teleport-BugFix
Needed to cure an on-save hang which occurs due to teleporting enemies in Mad Mulligan's mine (where I ran into it) and Shamrock Taphouse.
