Horrified

We would be horrified if the government ordered agents into libraries to burn books. We should be equally horrified when the government seeks to erase public documents from electronic libraries. If hypertext is to carry out its traditions, then what is published must remain so. Erasure will make no flame and smoke, but the stench of book-burning will remain.

[acidfree:4145 align=right]

What do you do when you're just overloaded with executions, and people are smuggling highly mediapathic video clips of mob-style firearm executions out of your country and showing them to people like Amnesty International, when you're dealing with a primarily rural-living population and you need a decentralized infrastructure? That's right! You build DEATH VANS!

Orwell Rolls in His Grave

Orwell Rolls in His Grave is a critical examination of media influence in the USA. Its primary theme is the proliferation of a handful of media congolmerates that have all but completely conquered american media, and are even capable of exerting a strong influence throughout world media. A great deal of time is given (unsurprisingly) to war in the Middle East; but the focus is not on government (although certainly some time is spent with Michael Powell, who resigned as head of the FCC in 1995.)
